The most secure place to store your passwords

It's a real product: a pastel notebook sold as an "Internet Password Book", promising to keep track of all your usernames, passwords and web addresses. Every credential you own, in plaintext, in one portable object that fits in a handbag, with an elastic band for security.

Why it's funny (and why it sells): password rules demand long, unique, rotating secrets, and nobody gives most people a tool to hold them, so they reach for paper. To be fair, a notebook at home is out of reach of remote attackers, which is more than can be said for reusing one password everywhere. It fails the moment it's lost, stolen or photographed, though. A password manager does the same job with encryption, and passkeys plus MFA remove most of the passwords worth writing down.
